DETROIT - The Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL) Board of Directors announced today the appointment of Joe Emery as its new commissioner. The appointment is effective immediately.
Emery has been a youth hockey coach for more than 10 years and has coached many levels in metro Detroit, including Mini Mite, Bantam and High School. In his new role, he will oversee the direction of the League and will direct the LCAHL Operations Board members. He will be responsible for all facets of the LCAHL League from scheduling, communication, marketing and business planning, and will report to the LCAHL Board of Directors.
"Joe brings tremendous experience to our league being involved with youth athletics for more than 22 years," said Mike Bayoff, chairman of the LCAHL Board of Directors. "His leadership and love for hockey will allow us to grow and improve our league in the years to come."
"I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve as the LCAHL Commissioner," said Emery. "I view it as a challenge that will allow me to continue to grow as a person. I believe that The LCAHL has made great strides to improve the product that we offer and I look forward to working with all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the League and with our dedicated volunteers."
A native of River Rouge, Mich., Emery is a political science and economics teacher at River Rouge Middle School. He is a graduate of Michigan State University in East Lansing and lives in Riverview with his wife Lori and their five children.
The Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League Association (LCAHL) was started by Mike and Marian Ilitch in 1979. With 800 teams and over 15,000 players across the Midwest, LCAHL is the nation's largest amateur hockey league. Thousands of LCAHL alumni have moved on to play collegiate hockey and 100 or more have played in the NHL.
